Be a Local Hero Buy Local Food
The Midleton Farmers Market began in the spring of 2000. Twelve local farmers and food producers drove to Midleton in the early morning to set up stalls and bright umbrellas in a space just off the main street which was provided by the Midleton Urban Council. The response from the public was enthusiastic and has continued to gather momentum and eleven years on the market is a much loved part of Midleton town life.
The buzz on a Saturday morning is tangible and the market has built up a loyal customer base with new people discovering its attractions every week. Buying in a market is a different type of shopping experience which appeals to a growing number of shoppers.
At present the market sells a variety of fresh vegetables and fruit in season, organic beef and chickens, local rare breed pork, farmhouse cheese, smoked and fresh fish, homemade chocolates, wood-fired pizzas, homemade cakes, apple juice, fresh herbs and in season you will find locally foraged foods such as elderberries, wild damsons and watercress.
We hold various events throughout the year such as craft beer and farmhouse cheese tastings and heritage vegetable tastings and the market is always accompanied by the sounds of talented local musicans.
The Community stall is a free stall available to any of our customers who may like to sell excess from their gardens or fancy themselves as a forager of wild foods. The stall is also made available to local children and school groups who would like to experience running their own farmers market stall.
